Rifugio Volpi al Mulaz

Set at 2,571 m beneath Monte Mulaz, Rifugio Giuseppe Volpi al Mulaz enjoys a spectacular high-altitude position in the northern Pale di San Martino. Surrounded by rugged limestone peaks and overlooking the upper Val Focobon, the hut feels wonderfully remote and offers expansive views across one of the wildest corners of the Pale.

The original refuge was inaugurated in 1907 and later enlarged and dedicated to Giuseppe Volpi. Today it provides around 40 beds and remains an essential stop on the Alta Via 2. The kitchen keeps to the simple traditions of mountain cooking, while nearby Monte Mulaz, at 2,906 m, can be reached from the refuge and offers an exceptional panorama over the surrounding Dolomite groups.

For hut-to-hut hikers, Mulaz is one of those places where the overnight stay feels like part of the adventure itself: high, isolated and surrounded almost entirely by rock and sky.
