All details at a glance

✅ 3-day circular hut-to-hut trek through the wild Cima d’Asta massif
✅ Discover granite peaks, alpine lakes and historic WWI trails
✅ Stay at authentic Rifugio Caldenave and Rifugio Cima d’Asta
✅ A quieter alternative for experienced hikers looking beyond the classic Dolomites routes

Looking for a short hut-to-hut adventure away from the busiest trails? The Alta Via del Granito takes you into the rugged landscapes of the Lagorai and Cima d’Asta massif.

Unlike the pale limestone of the Dolomites, this area is shaped by granite peaks, rocky basins, alpine lakes and remote valleys. Starting and finishing at Malga Sorgazza, the circular route leads through increasingly wild mountain terrain, with nights at Rifugio Caldenave and spectacular Rifugio Cima d’Asta – Ottone Brentari at 2,473 m.

With around 32 km and 2,220 m of total ascent, this compact trek is physically demanding. There are no via ferrata sections, but good fitness, sure-footedness and experience on rocky mountain trails are required.

Here's the detailed program:

🗓️ Day 1: Malga Sorgazza → Rifugio Caldenave
↑1,080 m – ↓730 m – 11.4 km – 7–7.5 hrs
Climb from Malga Sorgazza through forests into the wild granite landscape of the Lagorai. Cross high mountain terrain around Forcella Tombolin before descending into the beautiful Caldenave basin.

🗓️ Day 2: Rifugio Caldenave → Rifugio Cima d’Asta
↑1,100 m – ↓410 m – 11.8 km – 6.5–7 hrs
The most demanding stage leads past alpine lakes and historic WWI sites via Forcella delle Buse Todesche and Forcella Magna. Continue through rugged granite terrain to Rifugio Cima d’Asta at 2,473 m.

🗓️ Day 3: Rifugio Cima d’Asta → Malga Sorgazza
↑40 m – ↓1,080 m – 8.8 km – 4–4.5 hrs
Leave the high granite landscape behind and descend through rocky terrain, alpine pastures and forests to Malga Sorgazza, completing your Alta Via del Granito adventure.
