Rifugio Contrin
Set at 2,016 m beneath the Marmolada, Rifugio Contrin is a historic and welcoming mountain refuge surrounded by some of Val di Fassa's most impressive peaks and an important stop along the Alta Via 2.
Situated at 2,016 m in the upper Val Contrin, Rifugio Contrin lies in a magnificent natural amphitheatre beneath the Marmolada massif. Gran Vernel, Cima Ombretta, Sasso Vernale and Cima Uomo rise around the valley, while views also extend towards the Sassolungo group, giving the refuge one of the most impressive mountain settings in Val di Fassa.
The first refuge was inaugurated here in 1897, but was destroyed during the First World War. It was later rebuilt by the Associazione Nazionale Alpini and reopened in 1923. The complex was further expanded in 1929, and today it is one of the larger mountain refuges in the area, with around 100 beds. Since 1974 it has been managed by the De Bertol family.
Contrin offers both traditional dormitory accommodation and private rooms, together with bar and restaurant service. Its position makes it an important stop on the Alta Via 2, the Munich–Venice route and Via Alpina, while the surrounding trails lead deeper into the Marmolada and towards Passo San Nicolò.
