Rifugio Puez
On the high plateau of the Puez Group, at 2.475 m above sea level, there is the Puez Hut, one of the best-known refuges in South Tyrol.
Rifugio Puez sits in the middle of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage. The landscape here is unique — wide, open plateaus instead of sharp peaks. Unlike many other areas in the Dolomites, the Puez plateau is known for its gentle, rolling terrain and pale rock formations, often described as a lunar or desert-like landscape. The area around Rifugio Puez is famous for its fossils and layered rock formations, telling the story of the ancient tropical sea that once covered the Dolomites. Compared to hotspots like Tre Cime or Seceda, the Puez area is less crowded, offering a more peaceful and authentic mountain experience.
