Rifugio Rosetta
Located at 2,581 m on the vast Pale di San Martino plateau, Rifugio Rosetta offers a unique high-alpine experience in a surreal, almost lunar landscape. Surrounded by dramatic peaks yet set in wide open terrain, it’s a perfect base for exploring one of the most distinctive areas of the Dolomites.
Perched high at 2,581 meters on the edge of the vast Altopiano delle Pale di San Martino, Rifugio Rosetta is one of the most iconic high-altitude huts in the Dolomites.
What makes this place truly special is not just the hut itself, but its unique setting. Instead of sharp ridgelines, you find yourself on a wide, almost surreal plateau — often described as a “lunar landscape” — surrounded by towering peaks rising like silent guardians in every direction.
The hut has a long alpine history, dating back to 1889, and has been rebuilt and expanded over the years, reflecting the growing fascination with the Pale di San Martino region. Today, it combines this historic character with a welcoming and authentic rifugio atmosphere.
From Rifugio Rosetta, you are perfectly positioned to explore one of the most fascinating areas of the Dolomites. Numerous trails lead across the plateau and towards surrounding highlights such as Cima Rosetta, the Fradusta glacier area, and classic routes of the Alta Via 2.
Despite its high alpine location, the hut is surprisingly accessible thanks to the cable car from San Martino di Castrozza, followed by a short walk — making it both remote in feeling, yet easy to reach.
